The 62nd running of the Irish Oaks was held on Saturday 21st July 1956 over 1 1/2 miles of The Curragh, starting at the Howth Post. A pot of 5880 sovereigns was availble, 900 sovereigns to the second and 580 sovereigns to the third. The winner was owned by Mr Harry Wragg, trained by Harry Wragg and ridden by Manny Mercer. The winner won by a neck in 2 minutes 33 seconds, with 4 lengths between second and third. |
